What is the reason why carbide drills break easily when drilling holes?

Drilling bit breakage is an inevitable phenomenon. In order to avoid this phenomenon from happening frequently, all we can do is to understand the reasons for drill bit breakage, solve the problem, and choose a better twist drill for drilling. So what is the main reason for twist drill drilling?

Carbide drill cutting and manufacturing is very particular about material to material, that is, whether the material of the twist drill is suitable for processing the material of the product being cut. For example, if you use an ordinary high-speed steel 6542, 4241 and other materials to process stainless steel 303.304 and other materials, it can almost be said that it is like hitting a stone with an egg, and it cannot be shaken. When the material of the drill bit cannot overcome the material being cut, it is still drilling. Then, under the impact, the twist drill will naturally break. This is a point. If the drill cannot be drilled, it is easy to break if you continue to drill.

The second phenomenon can be considered that the selected twist drill material is not suitable for the processing environment and material. Carbide is a very common raw material for twist drills. As we all know, alloy twist drills are hard and wear-resistant, but have poor toughness. They are not suitable for hand-drilling equipment, but machine drilling equipment will still break. There are two reasons. First, there are more materials to be processed. Some materials have high moisture content and all kinds of materials, which leads to the collapse of the alloy drill and then the breakage of the drill. The second reason is that the hardness of the original carbide twist drill is too high, which is inconsistent with the material being processed. The last reason is about the stability of the equipment. It does not mean that you can use a good alloy twist drill if you need the equipment urgently, but you need to stabilize the runout rate and concentricity of the equipment.

If carbide drills want to perform drilling processing efficiently, it is very important to choose a suitable carbide drill. There is no need to blindly choose expensive ones, but to choose a suitable one according to your actual situation. When choosing a twist drill, you should choose the material that can be punched, the equipment used, and the actual hole diameter and depth.
